Nov. 18, 2009 (China Knowledge) - China Shenhua Energy Co Ltd<601088><1088>, the largest coal producer in the country, said on Monday that its commercial coal output grew 5.6% year on year to 17.1 million tons in October.

The Chinese coal producer said in a statement that it sold 21.2 million tons of coal last month, up 11.6% from a year earlier. Coal exports rose 20% from a year ago to 1.2 million tons during the period.

Shenhua generated 10.13 billion kWh of electricity and sold 9.44 billion kWh of electricity in October, representing a year-on-year increase of 40.9% and 42%, respectively.

In the first nine months of this year, the company's commercial coal output grew 15.2% year on year to 158.8 million tons and its coal sale in the period was 189.6 million tons, up 10.4% from a year earlier, China Knowledge reported earlier.

China Shenhua predicted that its net profit would grow by 18% year on year in 2009 due to increasing coal demand amid macroeconomic recovery.
