Dec. 8, 2009 (China Knowledge) - Research In Motion Ltd, maker of the BlackBerry handsets, has signed a cooperation agreement with Digital China Holdings Ltd<0861>, a Hong Kong-listed information technology company, the two companies announced yesterday.
The agreement will give RIM access to Digital China's national distribution network, which will help RIM promote its Blackberry smartphones in China.
Jim Balsillie, co-CEO of RIM, said in a statement that the company is very glad to cooperate with Digital China since its extensive knowledge of the market will accelerate RIM’s business growth in mainland China.
Guo Wei, CEO of Digital China, said the company will cooperate with RIM in many other fields besides the field of terminal products.
Currently only China Mobile Ltd<0941><CHL> offers BlackBerry mobile service in China. Other major carriers including China Unicom (Hong Kong) Ltd<600050><0762><CHU> and China Telecom Corp Ltd<0728><CHA> have reportedly approached RIM about offering BlackBerry service.
